National Conference with International Participation ‘Complex Research and Cooperation in the Arctic: Interaction between Universities and Research Institutions’

On February 26th and 27th, 2015, the conference ‘Complex Research and Cooperation in the Arctic: Interaction between Universities and Research Institutions’ took place at the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University. The event attracted leading researchers and university professionals who study the Arctic. Institute of Regional Studies and Urban Planning (IRSUP) researchers Irina Ilyina, Alexander Minin and Olga Khoreva participated in the conference.

Irina Ilyina, IRSUP Director, spoke at a plenary session on the ‘Regional effects of Russia’s Arctic strategy’. Olga Khoreva, Deputy Head of the HSE Department for Spatial Development and Regional Studies, presented a paper entitled ‘Contemporary technologies to promote workforce mobility in the Arctic’ at a session on ‘Problems of monitoring and forecasting the situation and development of socio-economic and cultural landscapes in the Russian Arctic regions’. Alexander Minin, Chief Research Fellow at IRSUP, spoke on ‘Indication and climate change in the Arctic by the results of phenological monitoring’ at a session entitled ‘Monitoring the environment and climate change in the Arctic (climate change, forecasts, prospects; industrial development of Arctic territories and its influence on the environment)’.

As a result of the conference, recommendations on amending the Russian state programme ‘Socio-economic development of the Russian Arctic zone up to 2020’ will be developed and areas for cooperation between higher education institutions and research organizations aimed at the development of Arctic territories will be defined.
